The CAPPED Canister Project allows donations from customers through local businesses . . .
The CAPPED Canister Project was started late in 2006, when income began dipping sharply. The canisters were designed and built in-house to save money. Local business leaders were contacted and asked for permission to place a canister in their place of businesses. Fifty canisters in all were dispatched in Alamogordo, Cloudcroft, LaLuz and Tularosa. Teams of CAPPED Volunteers travel to each business once monthly to pick up the donations.
For the past 5 years, the proceeds from the montly pick-up have paid the electric bill for The CAPPED Building, making it possible to continue to serve the people of Otero County through The CAPPED Building. Through the years, many of the canisters have been either broken or stolen. Today, there are less than 20 still in service. Many other organizations have also placed canisters in the community in their attempts to navigate this difficult economy.
My sincere thanks to all the businesses that allow CAPPED to place canisters near their registers for periods of time throughout the past 5 years. With your help, we have been able to continue serving the cancer information and support needs of our friends and neighbors in Otero County!
